Che Lingo’s play on words exposes the social battleground of South London

Che Lingo’s lyrical puns have a heavyweight impact. The multi-faceted rapper spits intelligent and creative rhymes, switching between classic grime, sentimental R&B and cinematic trap. Taking inspiration from both the USA and the UK, London has a particular impact in his universe.

In September, the latest single from Che Lingo was released in the form of “VIBE CHECK (palo santo)”; a song about community and survival. Released via Idris Elba’s 7WALLACE imprint, it recalls memories from the rapper's childhood, which he explains:

"I was chilling with a lot of homies that were burning this wood (Palo Santo) at one point. The smell reminded me of when I was young, and things were clearer in the world. In life, if you learn anything as you grow, it’s that your environment and people can change in a heartbeat, so staying vigilant amidst the chaos outside is the best chance at both survival and evolution."

Che Lingo’s latest full-length album, The Worst Generation, cemented his position on the English music scene with understated confidence. The twelve tracks are filled with stories from South London about discrimination, prejudice and police violence.
